The Fourth of July

July 5, 2010

What a fun Fourth we had! After a morning and early afternoon spent at home working in the yard, we made our way to our friends, Dina and Dennis’ home for a fun time with them and their neighbors (whom we are also blessed enough to count as friends!). Lots of food, lots of kiddos, games, running around, watermelon eating, a bike parade and, of course FIREWORKS! As always, a wonderful time was had by all.

Not a great shot- but the best I could get before they all scattered in four different directions and covered themselves in watermelon juice, ketchup and dirt!

William confiscated another kid’s tractor (no one was on it at the time) and taught himself to drive. He was so pleased with himself! He was hilarious driving around the yards and so funny to watch his big kids chasing after him!

Our Four Kiddos. Yes, in matching outfits made by me. Yes, I am one of those moms. Leave me be. I’ve got to dress them matchy-matchy while I can!!!

Our girl, looking sassy. Ha! What else is new? (You can’t see it in this picture, but she’s wearing jeans that had holes in the knees: I cut them off at capri length and added ruffles that match her shirt)

Our littlest one. Matthew’s first Fourth! (All the boys had matching shorts and appliqued tee’s. Matthew also had a matching blanket.)

John could not wait to get his paws on some watermelon! And yes, he’s sporting his summer ‘hawk (not spiked up for this day, however).

William. This boy loooves himself a sandbox. He’s scoping out some other kid here- don’t mess with the digging process, thankyouverymuch.

Not one of our kiddos, but what’s a Fourth of July without some good eats?! I made mini cheesecakes, decorated and arranged to look like the flag. Yum.

Elizabeth getting a helping hand from Dennis during the kids’ bike parade. We didn’t bring their bikes but Dina and Dennis were kind enough to let our kids borrow theirs- Elizabeth got to ride Dina’s. Freaks this Mama out just a bit to see that her daughter could almost ride a woman’s bike!!! Ack! When did our girl get to be so big?

The shadows are getting long… must be getting close to fireworks time!

I didn’t take any pictures, but our friends Chris and Michelle L. put on a fabulous show for all of us! The kids got sparklers and Chris lit up the night sky for us. A fun end to a lovely afternoon and evening spent celebrating our great nation with wonderful friends.
